Do you believe in karma?
Which one do you mean? The Hindu one? “Hindu traditions: karma is generally connected with dharma (duty/right conduct), rebirth and liberation (moksha).”
So, no. I’m not Hindu and don’t identify with it’s belief system. No offence to my Indian cousins.
Then there’s – “Buddhism: karma primarily concerns intentional actions and their effects on future experience and rebirth”. There is no permanent soul that carries karma from one life to another in the Hindu sense.
I think this is probably what’s being referred to with this question. So that would be a NO as well. The idea that your existence continues and what you did or didn’t do formerly has some kind of beneficial or bad effect on the life you’ve got now is also to admit that you have no control of what your life can be. So, that’s also a next level no, as in “no way José”!
Then there’s this: “Jainism: karma is understood particularly strongly as something that binds the soul and must be removed through ethical and spiritual discipline” which is, as far as I can tell, just somebody’s idea that the other 2 weren’t such a good idea, let’s have another! And let’s make it more complicated!
So, guess what? Yes and no but mostly NO!!! I know that I said “it depends” but actually, my definitive answer is 3rd level NO, TAKE A HIKE.
Seriously, I don’t want to offend anyone. You are free to believe what you want. Think karma is good? If you like.
I follow a code based on credible evidence, I take responsibility for my own actions (or lack of), I believe kindness and fellow feeling should dominate our lives.
