How do you deal with uncertainty?
See what I did there! There is a mathematical structure called the Heisenburg principle of uncertainty.
In plain English it’s a theory that explains why you fall over a small obstacle but not always. Roughly.
OK, I’m massively generalising but you catch my drift. Of course, this knowledge doesn’t stop you going for a walk, jogging or leaping up a vertical rock face.
Maybe it’ll stop you doing the last one but, you know what I mean. There are many uncertainties in life.
The question is, how to deal with it. Firstly, you can minimise most of the uncertainty around a certain task. Washing up, hanging the laundry out to dry, walking the dog etc.
Second, even though you can’t possibly control everything you do or what others may do to you, by having a positive outlook and treating others how you’d like to be treated, you can minimise possible difficulties.
Third, the Spanish Inquisition. Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition! It’s the only uncertainty you can’t account for. 🤣🤣🤣☺️☺️😉
Just kidding. I think the Catholics have stopped burning people alive because they disagree with their teachings. For now anyway.
You may have had a very difficult upbringing which has completely destroyed your confidence. This leads to feeling uncertain about nearly everything. This requires a different strategy.
In this setting, you need to start accumulating some definites. Start small, gradually spread the variety of things you can do. Then stop and reflect. “Did I achieve what I wanted?” If not, try again. Nobody’s watching or judging you. Realise that you are responsible for your own happiness and life’s experience.
Step by step, you’ll gain the confidence you need to face life in all it’s incredible diversity. It will only bite you on the bum if you are mean or unkind. When it all goes pear shaped*, it’s possible you helped contribute to your discomfort. Open your eyes and ears, take it in, learn.
And don’t forget, nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!
