Huppa! Moussaka!

What’s the best local dish you’ve ever eaten while traveling?

Not any old moussaka, no no no. My Aunty Helen’s, that’s the bees knees!

If you’ve visited this space before,  you’ll know I’ve done a few travels. My old Mum was Greek so I’ve got a predisposition to all cuisine Greek. Don’t knock it, my Mum’s Dad and Mum were centenarians when they shuffled off this mortal coil. My Uncle Costa was also a 100 when he passed.

Even when I spent a year in Cyprus, I never found a restaurant or went to a friend’s house and had something as delicious.

Now you could say, ‘you were a kid, your memory is playing tricks on you’. Well, ya boo sucks is my answer. I know what I tasted and haven’t found anything like it.

Even when I make it myself [ooh get you Gordon Blue!] I haven’t managed to replicate my aunty’s fantastic dish!

I’ve been to a lot of Greek restaurants in the UK, nowt*, nada, zilch, no-go. Not disappointed at all, they tried. Really. Just not the ‘real thing’.

Sadly, she died some years ago and I never found out what her secret was especially the bechamel topping.

Drat and double drat! I’ll keep trying, you never know,  I might just accidentally make it work.

Can’t stop. Just going to the shops to get some ingredients!

Later dudes! Have a good un.

*”nowt” – Yorkshire for nothing. If you’ve seen this before why are you reading it again!!!
