What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
. . . tools/things, and they’ll look after you. How did that piece of advice land in my ears?
When I was a teenager, my Dad [who was good at decorating, wallpapering, painting etc.] took me on one of his jobs and said this to me after I’d not cleaned a paint brush very thoroughly.
He then showed me how best to do it and reminded me that he’d had this paintbrush about 15 years. It was such good quality, you couldn’t tell it was that old.
They used to make them well, being concerned that their reputation was at stake. These days, it’s cheap and cheerful, chuck it when you’re done.
The throw away society where quality has less value, quantity is ALL THAT COUNTS. ££££!!! KERCHING!
This advice is however, very sound. There is still a generation that values this epithet. It’s saved me a lot of money over the years and with quality equipment you always get better results. So it’s self-fulfilling and has more benefits than disadvantages.
I gave this advice to my kids and, given the opportunity, to anyone who will listen. Hope you find it useful.
