What’s something you used to worry about but don’t anymore?
. . I.e., 70+. I often wondered ‘what must it be like to not have to work anymore?’
I’m not a naturally optimistic person. I need some facts and positive information to be optimistic about anything.
My Dad’s father got to 90 but with dementia. My father died because of a stupid mistake in a hospital. My Mum died early too. But her mother and father were both in their 90’s and passed away from old age.
Mixed factors there then. I’ve got a fantastic support group. My wife and daughter along with many close friends.
That’s on the upside. I’ve got 3 health issues that throw a spanner in the works. So the start point is a bit wobbly if you catch my drift.
However, there are some overwhelmingly favouring factors in my life. This isn’t the platform to talk about them.
I’ll just say they give me such an amazing sense of hope, trust and optimism that I can truly say, it’s not age that’s the problem but how you face up to the limitations it imposes.
I’ve met a lot of older people with no hope or optimism in their life. They are often surly, annoyed with everyone and everything and continually whine about ‘the good old days’.
If that’s how you want to go on, fine. Sort yourself out and go and be miserable somewhere else. Not interested.
Give me some cheerful, positive vibes and a handful of funny stories, ideas for an inexpensive adventure or 2 and let’s enjoy what we’ve got.
That’ll do me, ta very much. It can be depressing IF YOU LET IT!
So, don’t. Just saying.
