Lord of the Rings. No surprise there then! I’ve read The Hobbit that many times as well, just to make the connection you understand.
It’s also a charming and fascinating story. It’s yet another take on the age old theme of good vs evil. Apart from one or two plot twists you can see it as – the evil anti-hero (who, surprise surprise, never physically appears thus adding to the suspense) who wants World Domination (!) and is defeated by a lowly hero with the help of his gardener (plus a wily wizard who apparently “can’t interfere” in the events but does a flipping brilliant job of pulling all the right strings) and a noble of obscure birth, handy with a sword mind you, then leads an outnumbered ragtag* army to distract the Evil Lord while 2 hobbits get ride of his source of power. (Cue evil laughter, fading to silence as Mount Doom explodes but said hobbits are rescued by improbably large Eagles. Talk about a twist!)
