The long and winding road . .

What’s a moment that made you realize you were stronger than you thought?

. . . someone sang. I started my working life in a Department store. In the DIY section, since you ask.

I then sleep-walked my way for a few years doing other retail, then in a car spares warehouse etc etc yawn yawn blahdeblah*.

I never was very confident or self-assured. I did well at school and my teachers said I should go to uni. But it didn’t happen.

However, I started to notice that people listened and reacted to me in a positive way (whether that was in conversation, telling jokes or doing impersonations of showbiz and other ‘famous’ people). I could make people laugh.

I began to think that maybe, just maybe, I could get into sales and see if I could make a living. 1st attempt fell flat on my face! You don’t want to know. Really.

Then I met my 1st wife. We started a family and I found a new motivation. This time nothing was going to stop me and I set about showing myself and then other line managers etc that I could do this.

And  . . .  I did! I’m no millionaire  but then I never wanted to be. I was satisfied with the levels of achievement in different types of selling environments and all due to my motivation.

I can honestly say that I was a decent, honest person in all my work experiences. I’m still decent and honest, I just don’t have to work so much, only on my art projects.

Hopefully it doesn’t sound smug. If you know what the goal is, you just need to shape your mental attitude to reaching the objectives. But don’t resort to lying and cheating you’re way to achieve your goals.

In the end you or your nearest and dearest will resent HOW you achieved what you set out to do.

For me it wasn’t “a moment” but rather, a development that was built on qualities I already had. Thus, the long and winding road described it well for me.

It led me to my own door, and I’m glad I walked along it.

*’blahdeblah = like etcetera but in a boring way! 😂😂😂
