Can I have 3 in joint 1st?

What is the best concert you have been to?

Deep Purple, ELO, Santana. Allow me to explain. First of all enter stage left: Deep Purple with the original line-up.

Me and my younger brother in the 3rd row. Ear plugs? Never heard of them! (Which is a pun itself! Read it again.  . . Yay, you got there in the end). Surrounded by head banging hippies and a full theatre of ordinary fans like me, it was flipping brilliant!

Next: Picture a cold winters day, the snow is falling steadily, there’s a labour government and the roads aren’t being gritted because the council’s got no money – bear with! – but we’ve got to get to Birmingham because ELO are playing the NEC. WHAT TO DO?!?!?!

Go anyway! Of course. So we set off as Paul Simon would have it “slip sliding away”. Made it! And because we did make it, Jeff Lynn said he’d play some extra songs just for having the pluck* to get there. Unique in many ways and still one of my all-time favourite bands.

Which brings me to 3rd =1st. You are following? There’s a quiz at the end! Santana. If you’ve read some of my other jottings you’ll be familiar with my propensity for Latin rock.

He didn’t disappoint, in fact it was one of the best live gigs I’ve been to ever. Great riffs, the best from several albums. Pure delight.

I have been to others – Argus, Neil Sedaka, Jools Holland,  several classical concerts, even Eric Clapton.

They were all worth the effort but don’t get into my no.1 spot.

I’d say my music taste is fairly eclectic. I regularly listen to these and other artists. Sometimes for the memories, sometimes just for the fun and often to dance (especially if I’m cooking!) [Yes, really!].

Whatever your listening to, enjoy. Music is a wonderful gift.

*”pluck” – it’s not just for fruit y’know! Or for banjo players! It’s also colloquial for ‘guts, bravery’ and that’s why we got some extra tracks we weren’t expecting. Good form!

  1. Exactly the same for me. Impossible to say. I ended up choosing 10 concerts!
