In my imagination is a 2 storey dwelling. There is a large east facing area with huge windows and a patio/deck with lots of bird feeders and the sort of plants for grazing of small deer.
It’s a huge kitchen also with large windows. I’ll make all the furniture myself using natural products. There’ll be lots of seating for family and the guests that will be regularly invited to visit and stay.
There’s 2 low wings going back towards the mountainside behind the house. These surround a courtyard with a gorgeous pergola that I’ve made. On the south side is a vine, and in the shadier parts other climbing plants. Oh yes, I nearly forgot, a fig tree.
A water feature will occupy the centre of the courtyard which is fed by a natural spring. The outspill will be directed down the hill along the side of the house so you have the sound of water outside the kitchen window. There’ll be a plateau like area to the western side of the courtyard with a large paddock and various outbuildings for the horses and other animals.
Further back and slightly elevated from the house will be a natural rock shelf where we can set up seating and some kind of lean-to for barbecues in the summer.
On the roof, which will be moss and other suitable planting, there’s going to be an open space with a guard rail of course. Here’s where I will have my telescope for some star gazing.
Access will be from the West facing room beneath, another picture window place to watch the sunsets.
One of the rooms will be for study and knowledge sharing. Preferably a bookcase (literal or digital more likely) so we can get into physics, quantum, biology, and other topics.
There’s going to be an art and crafts room too. In the house so you can get a cuppa and a snack without having to walk too far.
The 2 wings are bedrooms for family and visitors. With the outlook onto the courtyard it’s going to be the most enjoyable space.
But the most important ingredient in all of this must be love. It’s what makes a house a home. It’s your ultimate escape and comfort zone as long as there’s love.
So Switzerland probably. See you there?
