What makes a good leader?
In another decade, not too long ago, I used to be a trainer for Management, Team leading as well as other qualifications.
One of the basic components as a manager was communication. You may have your own goals but it’s imperative that you have a team behind you to easily communicate the goals and direction of the people you manage.
Such goals would be for the greater good of all those in your charge. Therefore you wouldn’t expect from others something you weren’t prepared to do yourself.
Communication is always 2 way. Otherwise it’s just telling, commanding or dictating. None of which leads to the greater good.
If you have a clear picture it’s imperative to make that as clear and understandable as possible. You can’t expect cooperation and understanding if you constantly change direction on a whim.
Another important component of management or leadership is the need to constantly assess and if necessary adjust your goals so that everyone can buy in to the end goal. This will directly benefit almost everyone.
This requires humility. Your team should be capable and brave enough to point out possible flaws or setbacks that interfere with the best result. The leader will be a better leader if he identifies that the problem or difficulties could be addressed in another way and have the guts to agree.
Another outstanding quality is understanding. Some of the things you’d like to achieve should be handled by an adequately qualified member of the team. Not only should the leader know that but they should ensure that there is someone who can effectively bring that about. If you don’t understand you can’t expect others to.
There are many other aspects to being a great leader. Sadly, it’s not visible amongst the so-called ‘leaders’ these days.
You might as well dress up as a chicken and strut around telling people what to do and how otherwise you’ll call them terrorists and shoot them. Sorry, not chicken, cock.
Isn’t there a saying about ivory towers? Oh well. Lessons won’t be learned and as usual, everyone has to suffer the consequences.
6,000 years and still we don’t get it. It’s always power, money and the self-aggrandisement that’s way more important than anything or anyone else. Yippee. 😖😲😵💫
