In what ways do you communicate online?
Hello? How the dickens are you?! I’ve lost count of how many apps there are that means you can ‘communicate’ with people (and AI!) whether you know them or not.
By the way, thanks for listening to my ramblings. Mille graze, muchos gracias, efaristo parapoli. Ta very much!
But don’t you find that we’ve kind of lost the art of conversation? I mean, yeah sure, have a rant, speak your mind etc etc. That’s been enabled by these apps of multitudinous description.
May I ask, when did you have a really meaningful conversation with someone? The highlight of my week is a video chat with my nearest n dearest via a popular app. My record is over an hour.
Yay! And there was much rejoicing. Especially for me as I’m 100’s of kilometres away.
For most dictionaries the core meaning of communicate is a 2 way sharing, imparting or comparing information.
I’m grateful for the ‘likes’ I get for these posts but it’s only a small percentage of what communicate really means.
So for me, thanks for all the apps but give me an hour with a buddy any day. Preferably over a pint of good cider and a ploughman’s lunch.
Online? Tick. Apps? Tick. Sharing? Mm, yeah but see above. Photos? Tick. Videos? Tick. I’m done.
Got to go, I’m meeting a friend for a good old meaningful conversation!
