What snack would you eat right now?
With apologies to any Muslim friends out there, it’s got to be a bacon sarny*.
I know what you’re thinking, how is it possible to hard fry some bits of pig, shove it between 2 layers of thick white bread (with a thick layer of butter of course!) and call that a snack?
It’s a very English thing. Look away now if you’re allergic to all things English. Check out Al Murray on YouTube for the full explanation. There is a God and He created bacon sandwiches.
I realise it’s slightly blasphemous but seriously have you tried one? When I was a teenager me and my brother stopped at a snack van in England somewhere (no I don’t remember) and he ordered us 1 each.
At the time I was hesitant. I’d only ever eaten corn flakes for breakfast and the idea that I should eat a bacon butty had never crossed my mind.
Now, it’s permanently etched on my amigdala. I’ve not yet stopped trying additional stuff to enhance the experience.
Like an egg, runny. Sausage (sorry to all the vegans). Mushrooms, fried til dark brown and almost crispy.
I’m drooling as I write this. Now for the debatable points: back or streaky bacon? Ordinary or dry cured? Organic (is a pig Organic?) or supermarket sourced? Brown sauce or ketchup?
Non-debatable – black pudding, no way Jose. Get back in your store cupboard. Brown bread! Not while I’m still breathing thanks.
Sorry, got to go. My frying pan is calling! Yummy.
*”sarny” colloquial English for sandwich. Also “butty”, same thing.
