Staying sane? Don’t wear a hat.

What are your biggest challenges?

Where I live, there’s an unbalanced view about going from one day to the next. OK, in this century they think it’s a “new year” completely unaware that some bloke with a funny hat changed the calendar some time ago.

Human behaviour is one challenge but I have to accept that there’s little I can do about it.

Acceptance is always a challenge. Will I be accepted in a new community? What if it’s a different language, outward appearance, huge culture gap? Then of course, what will I accept? What am I willing to adapt to feel good in my own skin as well as those close to me to help them feel comfortable too?

Some tall geezer (who also wore a funny hat) once said ‘you can please all the people some of the time, some of them ALL of the time but you can’t please all the people all of the time’. He was later shot in the head but I doubt it was for saying that.

Anyway, the thing is: recognise your own challenges, don’t take on what others demand in your situation (they’ve got no idea what you face daily), and just be nice to whoever you come across.

Another famous guy (he wore a metal hat) once said ‘cast your bread on the water and it’ll come back to you eventually’. So be kind as far as it’s possible with everyone in your life. The kindness will be returned to you and possibly from the most extraordinary people.
